FROM THE BAND: Sent: Wednesday, April 16.
"We actually played a live show after a miserably long hiatus. We played the
entire CD in its running order with very few pauses and then finished off with
“Strange Day”. Sorry y’all couldn’t be there. Brian Mendes performed
con gusto on the drums. We recorded the show and might have it for sale
before too long, but only AFTER the official release of “Coma” which
should be going off for manufacture THIS week.
In the meantime, please tell everyone we now sell our CDs through Cdbaby.com
Be sure to check out the new “Promography” which combines
“Promo” and “Promo
2”

- "Sorry it’s been a while, but now we’re back. Our new CD is finally finished, we’re chatting with some enthusiastic ‘suits’ and damn it, we’re ready to start playing again.
This Sunday, April 13th, we’ll be debuting songs from the new CD, titled
“Coma” at the Mercury on Sixth St. We’ll start at 9:00 and then stick around for one of our favorite bands, The
Earl Harvin
Trio, who are playing right afterwards.
While the CD itself won’t be ready for sale by the show, we will be GIVING AWAY copies of the promotional disk at the door to the FIRST 25 (paying) fans. Please come to the show and hear what we’ve been up to. We think you’ll like it!
We’ve missed you. 54 Seconds

- ALBUM
NEWS:
~ The Jez Spencer album has
sold out!!
~ Trish talked to the band about the CD
release party, and they said they will give a months notice when they set the
date.
~ The new
album is called Coma, and features guest artists, including the amazing Patty
Griffin, and the awesome Ephraim Owens to name only two. I am one of the lucky few to be blessed with an advanced copy, and I can tell
you all it is freakin' amazing!! Tell
me more...
Also, there is the possibility of a bonus 5 song EP release. It is called
Memoirs
of the Superficially Happy. Tell me more...
-
SHOUT OUT: I have to say that I am LOVING the new
album and the bonus EP SO MUCH! I am
dying to discuss it in depth. I have written out most of the lyrics. I just
have to fine tune them, and then work myself up for public humiliation when I
post them, only to be corrected with obvious mistakes.... nahhh, that won't
happen this time, because I think I have Spencer's accent down pat. Finger's
crossed?!
-
ABRA MOORE:
Glenn recently toured with Abra Moore!!
(no relation to Ian
Moore). [Thanks to
Caroilin for this info]
- SIGHTING: Caroilin and Trish caught Stewart playing
for Jimmy LaFave at this years Serrano's American Music Festival. For photos, and more news, check out the newly
re-designed Moonlighting!

NEXT UP IS BRANNEN:
"Next up will be Brannen playing on a new Bob
Schneider CD. I'm not playing the keys, but my Wurlitzer was rented
(hired) for the session.
Seriously, it's really, really close to being finished. Thanks again for
your patience. I told Spennie the next CD will be cut live, with no
second takes or overdubs and recorded directly to the master disc, all in one
afternoon and released the next day.

for passing this on]

PRESS:
-
- "In fact,
from what I hear, Spencer Gibb's rendition of the rather obscure Eric Clapton/Dylan
gem "Sign Language" at Jupiter Records' raucous Dylan wingding on
Friday may have been better than the whole of Sunday's show." - Ken
Lieck for the Austin
Chronicle.
- JOURNAL: In the most recent entry (01.21.03), Spencer said some
lovely words about the passing of his uncle, the great Maurice
Gibb, and the short album delay due to this. Click
here to read more (note* the main entry is misdated).

- December 2000 @ The
Speakeasy. Guest artists for the Monday show included: Ephraim
Owens on trumpet for "Sell it To a Girl", "Early
Warning" and "Blown Away". Laura
Scarborough sat in on "Early Warning" and Chrysta Bell (ex 8 1/2
Souvenirs vocalist) sang "Wanted". Tuesday was a stripped down "acoustic" show.
Both shows will be recorded (((LIVE))) -- Stewart
wrote: "Spencer played more acoustic guitar and we all experimented
with new arrangements. Brian Standefer sat in on cello for Blown Away,
Plastic Love, Skin, Nothing But A Child, Early Warning and Strange Day. We
recorded both shows to 8-track. Once the new studio is up and running, we'll
know more how they came out and if we can include them on the much awaited
live CD."
