World Stood Still
(S. Gibb)

Standing on a corner
Looking for a thrill
She asked me several thousand times
Why does your world stand still?

Couldn't find a reason
To keep her satisfied
All she ever asked from me was,
Why does your world stand still? and...
Why do you run away?

If only I'd asked her,
To make my world turn faster
I'd stay but how do I say goodbye?
this time.
What did I learn from this?
I really wanna know

Smiling as she walked away
'cos precious is her time
I stumble as I call her name but
All of the words got tied up (all of the words)
I can't seem to get it right

If only I told her
'cos now my world is colder
I'd say I don't want to say goodbye, this time.
What did I learn from this?
I really wanna...

Feel like it's going somewhere,
Nothing ever seems to grow 'round here.

BREAK

If only I'd asked her,
My world would turn much faster
I'd say, I know I can say goodbye, this time

If only I told her
My world wouldn't be so cold and,
I'd say, I know I can say goodbye, this time.
What did I learn from this?
What did I learn?
What did I learn from this?
I really wanna know.

Song Info: [4:55] Originally released on the Jez Spencer: 4-Track Mind album (1997/2001).
The new version of World Stood Still was the last song that the band cut in their old studio (which was actually Spencer's bedroom). Completely cut & mixed by the band, and mastered by Jim Wilson at Yes Mastering!
The 2001 mix (with bridge), was first released for Promo 2. It's now available on Promography. Live performances can be found on a few of the  Live Show Recordings CD's.

"I don't know what we were doing with this, but listening back it's kind of cool. This was always one of our favorite songs, and now we still play it with 54 Seconds (although Stewart and I wrote a bridge for it a couple of years later), but very differently. Still like the guitar solo, it was actually one of the first songs we recorded, but didn't finish it until much later when Stewart was playing with us." - Spencer Gibb on arrangement from the original 4-Track mind version.
