In a Box
(Spencer Gibb)

Put it in a little box babe
Make it so I can't see
Bury it in your closet
Like you did with you and me

And I've been waiting by the telephone
Thinking you might have the nerve to call
Me up and say
[: Don't be waiting :]
[: Still find a way :]

To be free, but in a box
Free, but in a box, ah ha.

And everybody's talking about it
Love been doing you wrong
Lock me up and throw out the key to the box
Where I belong

But I'm still waiting by the telephone
Thinking you might have the time to call me up and say
[: Don't be waiting :]
[: Still find a way :]

To be free, but in a box
Free but in a box. Ah ha

Free, but in a box
I'll be free yeah, but in a box
[: Free, but in a box :]
[: In a box, yeah:]
[: Yeah I'll be free, baby free in a box :] x4

Song Info: [5:42]: From the album Jez Spencer: 4-Track Mind.
"This song was written about the girl I was living with before I moved to Austin. I won't mention any names in case she gets her hands on this and her perfect little world is shattered by remembering she once dated a guy with more substance that the asshole she's about to marry. Bitter? Not at all. I just like to push buttons once in a while. Anyway, she was telling me she had put all my things I left behind in boxes and packed away, and I thought that was a good metaphor for us.
Sonically I think this tune was JJ and I exploring our classic rock roots. Stewart didn't help much in getting us away from that.
...Mmmm.
54 Seconds trivia buffs, note that the chorus of this song starts at 1:32.
(this has more meaning that you'd think)" - Spencer Gibb
